Born to Persevere

The Finishing School for Modern Women isn't the only project I'm involved in celebrating the fifth anniversary! The Know Your Worth Women's Leadership Conference is coming together next Friday, October 2, for our fifth annual conference. When we came up with our theme, Born to Persevere, at the end of 2019, we had no idea how topical this would be!

This is only my fourth year with this conference I co-chair with the visionary Denise Sherman. (Here's the story about how Denise talked me into this craziness.) Of course, this year has been a complete departure from how we've typically done our conference. It's taken some out-of-the-box thinking to get there, and I'm excited about how this will all work.

This year the conference will be completely online via Zoom Meetings. Everyone is used to this platform, so it will be easy for people to log in to see the conference live. What I'm excited about is that this won't look like a typical Zoom meeting!

The conference committee and all our speakers will be safely distancing at KCTU TV, a local broadcast station. Because of the lighting, cameras, and sets, it will look like we've put on a TV show! They have incredible bandwidth to transmit the conference over the internet, so there won't be any frozen screens or technical snafus on our end. (A big heads up to my friend, Mary Scott, a video producer with Make Believe TV for the idea.)

The conference is shorter this year. Rather than a full day, we will broadcast from 9 AM to 1 PM. People who register will get a schedule of speakers so they can be sure to tune in live to see their favorites in case their screen time is limited on Friday.

While we won't all be together, the conference will still be interactive. Our conference Administrative Assistant, Cecilia Rogers, will be monitoring Zoom Chat during the conference to get questions to speakers and to answer questions and to put up polls.

But wait! There's more! My favorite part of our conference online this year is how easy it will be to record the event. After the event is over, we're going to post the whole show online, broken into short speaker segments that people who register can watch anytime over the next year.

Of course, this means that even if you can't make it to the live conference, you won't have to miss this year's speakers – and we have some fantastic speakers. (Learn more about our speakers and sessions here.) Here's the lineup:
